Italian Tuscan Proverb – Ogni Pazzo Vuol Dar Consiglio – What does it mean?

May 5, 2025 By Larry Aiello

What does “Ogni Pazzo Vuol(e) Dar(e) Consiglio” Mean?

ogni-pazzo-vuol-dar-consiglio-italian-proverb

This is an Italian proverb that originated in the Tuscan region.

Italian Vocabulary

Ogni Pazzo – every crazy person, or fool

Vuol(e) dar(e) – wants to give

Consiglio – advice

An alternative word for a fool in Italian – uno sciocco

Other Words for Crazy in Italian

Crazy or insane – Pazzo (masculine) or Pazza (feminine)

Crazy or insane – Matto (masculine) or Matta (feminine)

Craziness or Foolishness – Pazzesco (masculine) or Pazzesca (feminine)

Madman – Louco

This proverb similar to the person that you know always talks the most, or says the least.  Isn’t it funny how we often will ask for advice, be it dating advice, from friends that don’t have good relationships, we ask business advice from those that do not have business success, etc.  We now have “life coaches” that are in the 20s giving life advice for a living, and although they may have some good wisdom, there is no teacher as having experience.

So be careful who you ask advice from and from those that freely give it!
