How to say No News is Good News in Italian?

July 25, 2025 By Larry Aiello

Did you ever wonder how to say “No News is Good News” in Italian?

We all know the feeling of anxiously awaiting news about something or someone.
And in the absence of contrary information, we feel that not hearing any news is a sign of good news.

This reflects the natural tendency for bad news to travel faster than good news.
And all you have to do is listen to the nightly news, and you will agree with me.

It’s also a sign of reassurance to use this expression. Especially since waiting for news can be very anxiety-provoking. It does not matter if the news is good or bad, but the act of waiting causes anxiety for many.

In Italian, the way to say “No News is Good News” is as follows:

Nulla Nuova, Buona Nuova

Italian Vocabulary for this Proverb

Nuova – news
Nulla – nothing
Buona – good

The feminine form of buona is used to match nuova, which means news.

Niente is another Italian word that means ‘nothing,’ but it is not used for this proverb.

Notizie is also another word that can be used for news in Italian.
