In this video below I am in Mexico City discussing the Italian noun gondola.
In Italian, góndola refers primarily to:
- the long, narrow, flat-bottomed boat traditionally used in Venice, propelled with a single oar.
By extension in modern Italian, it can also mean:
- a cable-car cabin (as in a ski lift),
- or a suspended car (e.g., on a Ferris wheel)
Italian Pronunciation of Gondola
Stress: on the first syllable (GÓN-do-la)
Notes:
g is a hard /g/ sound (as in go), because it is followed by o.
All vowels are pronounced clearly and separately, as is typical in Italian.
Gender and Articles
Feminine singular: la gondola
Feminine plural: le gondole
Plural Formation
Italian regular pluralization applies:
-a → -e for feminine nouns
gondola (singular) → gondole (plural)
Examples of using Gondola in a sentence

“The gondolas are lined up along the pier.”
