I am an Italian-American that grew up outside of New York City currently living in Tampa, Florida. I developed a love for the Italian language at a very young age as my family would travel back-and-forth to Italy every year during my summer vacations.
At a very young age I soon realized that knowing another language is very much a gift. It allows you to have relationships and friendships that you never otherwise would have had. It also allows you to travel and enjoy various cultures and new experiences.
During my stint as president of one of the local Sons of Italy organizations I was asked to teach Italian to some of the members. I was a bit hesitant at first thinking I was “rope a doped” into something I had no business doing. But I put together an in-person class and it was well-received. And I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others. I truly believe that knowing another language, especially since I learned it at a young age, is a gift for which I am very much thankful.
Since then I’ve taught my Italian for Travelers course as a way to raise funds for a local non-profit which works with at-risk youth in the community. And I also run an Italian Meetup group in Tampa where we focus on language learning along with all the other aspects of the culture.
I’ve utilized many of the same techniques from my in-person classes in this video series.
