Buon Seme Dà Duoni Frutti – Italian Proverb

August 8, 2025 By Larry Aiello

What does Buon Seme Dà Buoni Fruitti mean?

It means good seed makes good fruit.

We have many similar nuances of this expression in English.

One of them is that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree.

There is a similar saying with apples. The apples don’t fall far from the tree. This saying means that children often display the same characteristics as their parents.

It also means that if you plant a good variety of grapes, you can produce high-quality wine.

But you will never be able to produce a good quality of wine from a bad batch of grapes.

How this applies to Relationships

Many people enter into relationships thinking that they can change the other person to their liking. But that is never the case. If the grapes are bad, then you will not be able to transform them into a nice batch of wine. It’s the same principle with people. And maybe that’s why many women are attracted to the “bad boy” in the hope of changing and transforming them.

How it applies to Money

The same principle applies to money in throwing good money after bad. Many people don’t want to face the consequences of a bad investment decision, and often will keep investing in a failing business in the hopes of a turnaround.

To summarize, knowing the old Italian proverb buon seme dà buoni frutti or good seed makes good fruit will take you a long way in life.
