LARRY: Again, and here is the order for this week. I usually do… we usually read the song, Charles you haven’t been on before, but we usually read the lyrics then we listen to the song and then we interpret, we’ll come back. So we’ll start out with Tony. Why don’t you take the first three lines of the Gigi D’Alessio song “Quanti amori”.
TONY: Ok. “Ti potrei raccontare mille storie finite, dove s’era giurato amore per l’eternità.“
LARRY: All right, so let’s go ahead and hear what is singing, we start from the beginning again.
“Ti potrei raccontare
mille storie finite,
dove s’era giurato amore per l’eternità.“
LARRY: All right, by the way, this is done by, this is not his official video, this is done by Martulla16, I guess is a public woman and she creates these little video slides, she puts some really good slides that tie into the meaning of the song. So is Martulla16 creating this video and there are some others, there are some other words that I guess she’s expressing to her boyfriend, there are still up in the text of the song, so anyways as I know non to confusing, but this is the best video I can find for trade the lyrics, so. Anyway so he says “ti potrei raccontare”, what do you think that means Tony?
TONY: Ehm, I can tell you.
LARRY: Yeah, I can tell you a story or I can recount a story to you.
“Mille storie finite”.
TONY: A thousand stories, a thousand finished stories.
LARRY: Yep, a thousand finished love stories. In this case, he’s referring to a thousand finished love stories. You can just assume he’s talking about love stories that went a-ride, ok? And “dove s’era giurato amore per l’eternità”?
TONY: What you just said that love stories went a-ride. You know they, they swear to love for eternity.
LARRY: Right, “dove s’era giurato“, where love was sworn for eternity. So here he’s saying – I can tell a thousand stories of love stories that went a-ride, where love was sworn for eternity. Right? And there goes, there we see an accent at A, on “eternità”, so make sure you get that emphasis right at the end there “eternità”, get the emphasis on the last syllable, on the last vowel right there. All right, Lydia, you’re up right here, take these three lines.
LYDIA: “Ma è bastato uno sguardo nuovo per capire che sotto il cielo, c’è qualcuno che ha voglia di carezze come te.”
LARRY: Oh right, let’s hear it.
Ma è bastato uno sguardo nuovo
per capire che sotto il cielo
c’è qualcuno che ha voglia di carezze come te.
LARRY: All right so, “ma è bastato uno sguardo nuovo?”
LYDIA: But one glance, one new glance is enough.
LARRY: Right, but all it took was a new look, a new glance.
LYDIA: To understand that under the sky, under the… yeah, under the sky, there is someone who wants caresses like you.
LARRY: That’s right. So, “per capire che sotto il cielo“, to understand that under the sky, “c’è qualcuno che ha voglia di carezze come te“, there is someone that wants caresses like you. So here’s the story, here he’s saying “hey, I can tell you a thousand stories of love that went a-ride, hey it was sworn for eternity, but now hey, now you are coming alone, I see a new look, took one new look and I can see there’s some else now coming into the picture, a new love coming into the picture. All right, Patty takes these three lines.
PATTY: Ok. “Ti potrei raccontare che un amico sta male, ha un problema di cuore puoi…” I didn’t, couldn’t hear what he said, “guarirlo solo tu?” I couldn’t get the G.U.A.
LARRY: “Puoi guarirlo, guarirlo.”
PATTY: “Guarlirlo“, ok.
LARRY: “Guarirlo”, G before U sounds like GH, guarirlo. All right, so let’s listen, let’s listen to the song and we will hear it.
“Ti potrei raccontare che un amico sta male,
ha un problema di cuore
puoi guarirlo solo tu“.
LARRY: All right, so he said “Ti potrei raccontare”. What does that mean?
PATTY: I can tell you.
LARRY: Yeah, I can tell you a story or recount a story, same above up here. Ok, what about this line “che un amico sta male”.
PATTY: Ok, so about a friend feeling badly.
LARRY: That’s right. So he is talking about a friend, not talking about himself, he’s talking about a friend of his.
PATTY: Heart’s problem?
LARRY: A friend of mine doesn’t feel well. “Ha un problema di cuore, puoi guarirlo solo tu.”
PATTY: Having a heart problem, he said that only you… where am I….
LARRY: “Guarirlo” is healed.
PATTY: Yeah, heal ok.
LARRY: Or cure. So he’s saying – hey he has a heart problem that only you can heal it – probably broken heart right. he’s talking – hey, I’ve got a friend of mine with a broken heart and only you can heal. Yeah, so now Celeste takes these four lines, Celeste?
CELESTE: “Ma mi sembra…” I don’t know how to pronounce that, sle…
LARRY: “Sleale.”
CELESTE: “Sleale, ma sono io…”
LARRY: “Sleale“, S.L.
CELESTE: “Sleale. Sono io che sto male. Ho un… io ho un bisogno vitale di restare qui con te.” Wow, this is hard.
LARRY: Ok, let’s hear it. Let’s hear it hold on we hear it and then we’ll come back to it.
“Ma mi sembra sleale,
Sono io che sto male.
Ho un bisogno vitale
Di restare qui con te.“
LARRY: All right, so “ma mi sembra sleale”
CELESTE: But always, but always something…
LARRY: No, sembra is not sempre
CELESTE: Oh ok.
LARRY: “Sembra” is appears
CELESTE: Ahhh, mi sembra, but I always look, but she always looks unfair, unjust.
LARRY: Yeah, so for me it appears unfair, unjust right?
CELESTE: Oh ok unfair, unjust.
LARRY: “Sono io che sto male.”
CELESTE: Ehmm, it’s… it’s me that is bad.
LARRY: Yeah, he’s the guy that’s hurting
CELESTE: I’m the one that is hurting, yeah.
LARRY: What’s talking about, well, maybe he’s talking about a friend, but – hey, I’m the guy hurting too, I’m broken heart too, my heart is hurting too. Ho un bisogno vitale?
CELESTE: “Ho bisogno vitale“, I just need a life.
LARRY: I have a vital need.
CELESTE: I need a vital something, “ho bisogno” I need.
LARRY: I have a vital need, “bisogno” is need.
CELESTE: To restart, I guess, my life with you, “di restare con te?“
LARRY: “Di restare con te” means “to stay here with you”.
CELESTE: I have a vital need to begin my life with you.
LARRY: No, to stay here with you.
CELESTE: Oh, ok. Restare, stare, ok.
LARRY: Here he’s saying – hey, this isn’t fair, I’m the guy that’s hurting, I have a vital need, I want to stay here with you. All right?
CELESTE: Yes.
LARRY: Ok, I’m going to stop right there, right before the chorus, let’s stop the recording…
