Gloria – Umberto Tozzi – Video 3

(Catherine): Ready?

(Larry): Hold on one sec. All right, let’s stick it up again here, Catherine?

(Catherine): Scappa senza far rumore, dal lavoro, dal tuo letto, dai gradini di un altare, ti aspetto Gloria.

(Larry): All right, let’s hear it.

(Umberto Tozzi song):

Scappa senza far rumore,
dal lavoro, dal tuo letto,
dai gradini di un altare,
t’aspetto Gloria.

(Larry): All right, so if you say “scappa senza far rumore”?

(Catherine): You escape without making noise.

(Larry): Dal lavoro, dal tuo letto, that’s right…

(Catherine): From work, from your bed.

(Larry): Yeah, dai gradini di un altare?

(Catherine): From the stairs of an altar, I’m waiting for you, Gloria.

(Larry): T’aspetto Gloria, yeah perfect. All righty, and I think that probably the end of the song and I think is going to end with this… (music).

Umberto Tozzi 2012(Larry): Yeah, so that song ended. So now, so we see what’s going with this song, right, the Italian version of the song. You kind of get the gest of what’s going on. Now let’s have a look at the… listen, let’s see the lyrics of… here is Laura Braningan version, we might go into the song, but …

Gloria, you’re always on the run now, running after somebody, you gotta get him somehow, I think you’ve got to slow down before you blow it, I think you’re headed for a breakdown, so be careful not to show it.

You really don’t remember, was it something that he said? Are the voices calling in your head Gloria? Gloria, don’t you think you’re fallin’. If everybody wants you, why isn’t anybody callin’?

You don’t have the answer. Leave them hangin’ on the line, oh, oh, oh calling Gloria. Gloria they got your number and so on. So you see is a totally different song. Looks like this Gloria has got some issues.

(Lydia): This girl has got too!

(Catherine): It’s all about Gloria.

(Lydia): The other one just wants to get out with Gloria.

(Larry): Sound likes the other guy. The guy has got issues in the other one and here is the girl who got issues. Well, now it’s the same song and it was translated…

(Celeste): I wonder who did the translation for that Laura?

(Larry): But… it’s a totally, totally different song. The lyrics it’s the same but it has a totally different meaning. If you didn’t know any different, you might think it’s the same song, so…

(Lydia): I, I looked at the first four lines, sorry at the first three lines and it’s ah-ah. It is so different from the Italian version, you know when he is missing in the air, and then, his, his hand that works so slowly, and so, it’s not always on the run now…. Somebody you got to get somehow.

(Larry): Are there voices calling in your head…

(Lydia): You’re heading for a breakdown. Is it heading for a breakdown? There was a Spanish movie, women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, I don’t know if anybody remembers that old Pedro Almodovar movie and the translation or the name in Spanish was “Mujeres al borde de un atache de nervios”.

(Celeste): like a nervous breakdown.

(Larry): Anyway so, that is the lesson for this week, so I’ll stop the recording here.
