January 6, 2021 By Larry Aiello

In this song by Gigi D’Alessio called Quanti Amori we will look at the meaning and interpretation by analyzing the lyrics. It’s a great way to learn to speak Italian by improving comprehension. This will be the fourth and final video of this series. The other videos are located here:

LARRY: All right, Celeste we are coming up to a bridge in the song. Take these four lines, Celeste.

CELESTE: Ok. Nei desideri nascosti che ho, io voglio una vita divisa con te. Regalati un sogno stasera anche tu, se vuoi di più non puoi nasconderti.

LARRY: Ok, we’ll hear it.

Nei desideri nascosti che ho,

io voglio una vita divisa con te.

Regalati un sogno stasera anche tu,

se vuoi di più, non puoi nasconderti.

LARRY: All right, so that was “nei desideri nascosti che ho”?

CELESTE: I would like something with you.

LARRY: No, I mean “nei desideri”, in the “desideri” is desire.

CELESTE: I desire…

LARRY: “Nascosti” is hidden.

CELESTE:  I desire hidden…

LARRY: So, in those hidden desires that I have.

CELESTE:  I want something vital with you.

LARRY: Io voglio una vita divisa con te.

CELESTE:  I want a… divisa, a divided life with you.

LARRY: Yeah, so this is a little tricky word, I want a life shared with you.

CELESTE:  Ahh… “divisa” is shared there.

LARRY: “Divisa”, yeah you can think it might mean divided but “divide” is like a pie, and you know you have a pie and divided into two. You’re sharing it with someone.

CELESTE: Oh, that’s nice, ok. So, I want a life shared with you.

LARRY: Regalati un sogno stasera anche tu, se vuoi di più.

CELESTE: To give you a gift, regalati… a dream, un sogno stasera that will stay with you? Something about a dream. Regalati will be a gift of a dream?

LARRY: Here is… regalati un sogno, give yourself a gift, give yourself a dream.

CELESTE: That will stay with you. Even you…

LARRY: Even you, anche tu. Se vuoi di più, if you want more. So let yourself dream about this love affair we gonna start, I want to share life with you.

CELESTE: And what’s the last one I don’t know… non puoi nasco… I would like to…

LARRY: Non puoi nasconderti, you can’t hide, you can’t hide yourself.

CELESTE: Oh wow, ok. Non puoi nasconderti.

LARRY: All right, so Catherine?

CATHERINE: Ok, well I see, I think it’s a mistake, shouldn’t be “quanti amori nascono da qui”?

LARRY: Oh yeah, I copied this from google. And it is a mistake, quanti amori… and why don’t you take these three lines right there, I split it up. Take these three.

CATHERINE: Ok. Quanti amori nascono da qui. Accettami, forse era scritto che doveva andar così.

LARRY: All right, let’s hear it.

Quanti amori nascono da qui.

Accettami,

forse era scritto che doveva andar così.

LARRY: All right, so now this is a little different now, noticed it’s a little different right here  “quanti amori nascono da qui”

CATHERINE: How many love, how many loves start this way.

LARRY: No, this is different Catherine, da qui?

CATHERINE: From here.

LARRY: Yeah, perfect how many loves start from here, are born from here. Now it seems like they’ve tied up, ok. Or it seems like they are together – hey, how many love affairs start from here, going forward.

CATHERINE: Accept me.

LARRY: Accettami, yeah perfect, accept me. Forse era scritto che doveva andar così.

CATHERINE: Maybe it was written that it had to go this way.

LARRY: Perfect, kind of like the destiny, maybe it was written, it was going to be like this. And notice here there is a little trick(?) word, or sometimes they shorten word in Italian “andar così”, real verb or the all way, said the verb is andare, because is better with the song, so, forse era scritto che doveva andar così, and then we’ll finish up the rest of this song, Charles?

CHARLES: Ok. Scriveremo, scriveremo parole nuove, il tamburo sarà il tuo cuore, la mia voce più forte ti canterà.

LARRY: And right here we have, I think we have background vocals right here.

CHARLES: Quanti amori nascono così.

LARRY: All right, so let’s hear it.

Scriveremo parole nuove,

il tamburo sarà il tuo cuore,

la mia voce più forte ti canterà.

(Quanti amori nascono così).

LARRY: All right, so that was “scriveremo parole nuove”?

CHARLES: Scriveremo. Ok, we will write new words.

LARRY: Perfect, we will be writing new words, a new story, let’s start a new love story, that’s kind what is implying there…

CHARLES: So, I’m kind of guessing…

LARRY: Tamburo?

CHARLES: Tamburo is a drum? Tamburo will beat your heart.

LARRY: Perfect, yeah.

CHARLES: My voice, my stronger voice will make you sing or to sing you.

LARRY: No, la mia voce più forte ti canterà.

CHARLES: My strongest …

LARRY: My strongest voice will be singing to you.

CHARLES: Oh, ok, ti canterà so it’s io ti canterà, io ti canterà, io ti canterà.

LARRY: Right, right, I mean to you.

CHARLES: It seems it would be “ti canterò”?

CATHERINE: No, it’s “la voce ti canterà”.

CHARLES: Ah that’s right, that’s right, that’s right, la mia voce più forte ti canterà. Ok, my strongest voice will sing to you, ok.

LARRY: So, up here, in this little part right up here “quanti amori nascono da qui”, how many love relationships are born from here. So, it’s almost like – hey we’re gonna forward now, maybe it was written that it was gonna be like destiny. We’ll be writing new words, a new story. The drum will be your heart and my strongest voice will be singing to you, and then the song ends up with a couple of background vocals, quanti amori nascono così, quanti amori nascono così, and then quite a guitar and then a little fade. So I’ll stop recording…
